Here are some frequently asked questions about our work. Click on the question below for more information.
What is car remapping?
Car remapping is the process of modifying the software stored inside the Engine Control Unit (ECU). By adjusting fuel injection, ignition timing, boost pressure, and other key maps, the vehicle’s performance and efficiency can be optimised.
How does car remapping work?
Specialist software is used to read the original ECU file via the OBD port or direct bench connection. This file is recalibrated to alter engine parameters within safe limits, then written back to the ECU. The result is improved power, torque, throttle response, or fuel economy.
What is an OBD port?
The OBD (On-Board Diagnostics) port is a universal diagnostic interface fitted to most vehicles. It provides access to the car’s ECU and allows technicians to read error codes, log data, and update software.
What do you do with an OBD port?
We connect tuning and diagnostic equipment to the OBD port to safely communicate with the ECU. This allows us to extract the factory software, apply adjustments, and re-upload the modified calibration file.
What is an ECU?
The ECU (Engine Control Unit) is the car’s onboard computer, controlling how the engine runs. It processes input from sensors and adjusts parameters such as fuelling, air/fuel ratios, boost control, ignition, and emissions systems..

Will remapping affect my warranty?
Yes, in most cases, remapping will void the manufacturer’s warranty, as it alters the factory software. Some tuners offer insurance-backed warranties to cover this risk.
Is remapping safe for my engine?
When carried out professionally, remapping is safe. Maps are adjusted within the mechanical limits of the engine, turbo, and drivetrain. Cheap or poorly written maps can cause damage, which is why using a trusted tuner is important. We have a qualification certificate in remapping and many years of experience.
Can remapping improve fuel economy?
Yes. A well-calibrated map can increase torque at lower revs, meaning the engine requires less throttle input to maintain speed. Many drivers see noticeable gains in MPG with eco-tuned files.
Can I return my car to stock settings?
Yes. We always back up the original ECU file before remapping. If needed, we can restore the factory software at any time.
What’s the difference between OBD remapping and bench tuning?
- OBD remapping: Software is read/written through the OBD port without removing the ECU.
- Bench tuning: ECU is removed from the car and connected directly, often required for newer or locked ECUs.
Is remapping legal?
Yes — when carried out professionally. We only adjust parameters within the mechanical and thermal limits of the engine. Properly calibrated remaps maintain engine reliability and drivability.
How long does remapping take?
Most remaps take between 1–2 hours, depending on the vehicle, ECU type, and whether additional diagnostics or road testing is required.
